Joshua Eaddy, a South High School Honor Student, is the Auntie Karen Foundation’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year for 2012.
Joshua essay was a testament to making lemonade when given lemons. When he was in the 7th grade, Josh said he was in and out of trouble in school for being too talkative in class. His parents felt he had too many distractions so, they decided he would not get any video games or any thing else to divert his attention for Christmas. Instead, Josh got a red velvet cake recipe and on that Christmas morning in 2009, he got up and baked his first red velvet cake. He said he will always remember that Christmas “as getting a gift that keeps on giving even if I didn’t get all the stuff I usually got. From that Christmas experience, he launched his business, ‘Cakes by Josh’.
Josh says, “My business has impacted my community in that I donate cakes for fundraisers as my way of giving back. One of the biggest fundraisers in Florence County is the Humane Society’s annual Bone‐e‐fit. This benefit raised money for the city’s new animal shelter, and my cakes were featured at this event.”
In addition to the Florence Humane Society, Josh’s clients include a former principal, teachers and the mayor of Lake City.
His slogan, ‘Big taste, Small price’, speaks to the heart of this young man.
