Plans are underway to create:

Auntie Karen Hits The Road: A Mobile Museum

South Carolina’s history will come to life in Auntie Karenâ’s Mobile Museum. All ages will experience history like never before.  Students and School groups will gain the most as it is geared for grades one through six.

Lack of knowledge and biased history books continue to reinforce racial prejudice and lack of pride among African American children.  Few are aware that African Americans were a majority in the SC House of Representatives from 1868 to 1877 or that Joseph Rainey was SC’s first African American member of Congress and served in Congress longer than any other African American from the State.

After stepping foot in our mobile museum, all will be able to tell of South Carolina’s rich African American History. By creating this 48-foot multi media mobile museum, the Auntie Karen Foundation will bring students, residents and visitors to a place where they can hear and see the contributions of African Americans to the history of our state and our country. At audio-visual stations in the mobile museum, visitors can follow the history of African-Americans, beginning in the 1500s to the present. The walls and center area will be lined with historic photographs, while audio messages give a history lesson (with appropriate sound) for each period of time.

Sites:  The museum will travel to elementary & middle schools and parks across the state of South Carolina.

Upon request, the museum will also be available for special events (parades, historical celebrations, ethnic pride days, etc.)

Visitors can learn about the African-American heritage in South Carolina over the past 500 years, but also learn more about notables from the state.
